B14’s heading to put on a show for Beauty Point this Good Friday
at the 20th Annual Hydro Three Peaks Race
A fleet of 10 B14’s is expected to take to the water tomorrow at Beauty Point in aid of increasing the profile of the class in the state. Boats coming to the regatta include 4 boats from Hobart Steve Miller, Steve Mitchell, Roger Board and Adrian Beswick with their respective crews. From the Northwest Tim Grant and Roderick Jamieson with their respective crews are coming. Finally from the north of the state 4 boats are making their way to PDYC including Chris wells, Mitchell Lloyd, Richard Wells and David Cromarty with their respective crews. Quite a large diversity within the fleet will be there with the now current State Champions Adrian Beswick and Josh Phillips, also second place getter Chris Wells and Handicap place getters: Cromarty; Miller and Mitchell. This is the second time the fleet has made their way to Inspection Head after being reinvited to take part in the pre-race activities for the second time. There will be a Briefing at 10:30am followed by racing from 12 to 1pm. John Beswick and Peter Sluce will be commentating as the fleet hits the water to add to this years action. The current forecast is for 15 to 25 knots easing in the morning with inshore sea breezes. Hopefully the initial 15 to 25 knots will stick around so the fleet can put on a real show of speed and excitement.
The 20th annual Hydro Three Peaks Race will see many of the states B14 sailors taking part in the race including the likes of Head Tassie Sail-maker Steve Walker on Slingshot; Sail Maker, 5 time State champion and 2006 National B14 Champion Nick Richardson and his famous Crew Mark Padgett on Jail House Grill. Finally the ‘Buggar the Bone’ crew originals off Shoot the dog are re-assembling to sail on Fish’s Bennetau including class President Richard Fisher, Secretary Stuart McDonnell, past B14 owners Andrew Joyce and Jason Walker and new B14 owner Rob Moreton. On Behalf of the Association I would like to wish all the best to the competitors taking part in the event and safe racing for all.
